Orthotics

"The science that deals with the use of specialized mechanical devices to support or supplement weakened or abnormal joints or limbs."

In consultation with a referring physician, Orthotic Practitioners evaluate a patient to assist in the creation of a prescription for an orthosis.  Orthoses can be custom made from a computerized laser scan or cast model of the patient.  They may also be custom fit by modifying off-the-shelf prefabricated devices.  Many factors are taken into consideration when evaluating a patient and formulating an individual design.  Many custom orthoses are fabricated by staff technicians in our Winchester laboratory.
